Light Night

Posted by Emily 511 days ago (Story)
Darkness descends with the flip of a switch.
Creak and click.
The door is shut.
The swirling abyss of nothingness
Now consumes and vacuums every inch of detail.
The moon is new and unforgiving to the lone inhabitant,
Huddled on a freshly made bed.
Every noise reveals ghoulish creatures
Who dwell within closets,
Settle under beds,
And thrive within the tops and bottoms of houses.
The feeling of clammy hands, slick tentacles, and scaly skin
Sends shudders racing down spines that collide with quivering legs.
Their shadows dip and dive over walls,
And the sound of their calls echo down the halls.
The room fills with the gruesome visitors,
Ready for a night of chills and thrills and keeping Sleep at bay.
But their plans are spoiled by a well-known trick.
A protective shield in the form of a light
That wields a power no monster can fight.
