A Lipogram

Posted by dentedbobcat 513 days ago (Story)
Evergreen trees express the breeze,
When serpent creeks reflect the freeze.
December's endless sleet gets sent.
The weeks beget new weeks, then Lent.
We feel repressed, we need recess.
Then effervescent we egress.
We see nests shelter hens' fresh eggs.
New helpless geese shed shells, stretch legs.

I like the rhythm, it matches the mood, or maybe even helps create the mood. "When serpent creek reflect the freeze." and "We see nests shelter hens' fresh eggs." those are two lines that I don't know why but I enjoyed reading them. The whole poem was fun to read, although the mood it evokes - at least to me - is not fun, more somber, but that's just me and Winter. Maybe some of the rhyming seems forced, but I say that only because I feel I should offer some sort of criticism. I liked this poem and I am off now to find out what a Lipogram is.

Talented ear insertions reflect well the writer, indeed. Lipogram is a constrained form of writing. Here the constraint seems to be that each word contains at least one "e".

The constraint seems to be that "e" is the only vowel used. Impressive on many levels.
